The Arctic Fox has a little brother.

I'm home from the mountains now so my blog will return to being posted on the day it was written. I guess I should've reminded everyone before that I don't have any phone or Internet service at my property, so I wrote a blog every day but I didn't post them until I got home Sunday afternoon.

All my Amazon stuff arrived while I was gone so I've spent the last couple of days putting the tie downs and electrical connection on my truck so I can carry the Palomino Bronco around. Parts of it went okay like for instance the Happijac tie down points I ordered fit in the holes I had previously drilled the last time I had Happijac tie downs on my truck, so that was easy to do just time-consuming.

Putting in the electrical connection was a bit more difficult because I had to spend a lot of time laying and crawling around under the truck. Messing around under a truck was never a favorite thing of mine even when I was young, and being an old geezer now has increased the level of difficulty times a thousand.

I don't know about everyone else, but getting up and down off the ground has become a major undertaking for me. I used to be able to pop up like a Jack-in-the-Box, and now it takes me so long to stand up anyone watching would bet against me making it all the way up before dark. I guess my next step will be one of those "help me I've fallen and I can't get up" gadgets.

I'm still trying to get the taillights to work right. The brake lights are fine but the turn signals have a mind of their own.

That is a really good looking rig. I can see it working really well down into some pretty low above freezing temperatures. Do you know the water capacities?

Yeah it carries 22 gallons of fresh water, 7 gallons of Blackwater, and there's no mention of a gray water tank at all. But from the looks of things it drains into the black water tank. So it appears like it was definitely designed as a short-term camper.

It has a 20,000 BTU furnace, which isn't all that large but the area it's heating is so tiny it gets really warm really quick, but I will probably use my Little Buddy Heater to save on propane and electricity.

On the other hand my Hallmark pop up truck camper had no black tank or gray tank and an ice box instead of a refrigerator, and I made numerous month-long trips in it to the Pacific Northwest, Georgia and Florida. And because of the simplicity of dealing with it I was always comfortable and enjoyed traveling in it very much.

WOW that is a big heater. This Fox has a 25k btu furnace and has proven to be way too large for this little trailer. Have you got the insulating "drapes" that can be used to insulate the folding section of the sidewalls. I would think they would be good. That rig is going to be great fun.

I'm thinking that since the little Bronco is just going to be a summer camper and even though it gets pretty chilly in the mountains in the summer I'm probably not going to do very much to improve it. So far the only thing I really want to do is add a couple of solar panels because I generally don't drive enough to keep the batteries charged.

I don't think I mentioned it before but the two new AGM batteries in the camper are 6 Volt deep cycles, so they should do well with some solar charging.

Even though I enjoy DIY projects I'm going to try to keep this camper as simple and as light as possible. I think I enjoyed my Hallmark pop up so much because it was so light and so basic there just wasn't much in it to go wrong.

I have been thinking that if I wanted to go visit the South East in the fall and see the places I used to live in Georgia and South Carolina I believe I would enjoy the trip more in the little camper simply because its size, and ease of backing it up would open up a lot more opportunities for places to camp or boondock. And since finding places to camp or boondock is what worried me the most about taking the Arctic Fox to the Southeast I think going there in the little camper would be a lot more fun and a lot less stressful.
