This is a picture of the old part of town. And it looks a lot like most old downtown areas in America.
Today turned out to be a bit of a disappointment for me because it was really windy. The weather forecast was for a nice day today but the wind was blowing by the time I got up this morning and apparently it's going to continue blowing until next Saturday, Oh Goodie!
Since it was Sunday and Sundays a good day to drive around without too much traffic, Despite the howling winds, I drove around town and took a few pictures. Las Vegas has a very interesting history dating back to the early 1800s and has both an old part of town and a really old part of town. The really old part being where Mexicans first laid out the town. And the old part is where Americans started building.
There are all kinds of famous Western good guys and bad guys that spent time in Las Vegas, Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, Billy the kid, and others made their mark on Las Vegas. And Western historian Ralph Twitchell said...."Without exception there was no town which harbored a more disreputable gang of desperadoes and outlaws than did Las Vegas."
Las Vegas doesn't appear to be that bad anymore, and my guess is people like Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday probably wouldn't even hang around here nowadays because there wouldn't be very much for them to do, for crying out loud, the Las Vegas Walmart doesn't even sell beer, and I'm pretty sure that would keep Doc Holliday away.
This is the old movie theater in the old part of town. It looks like it's still open but its not, it's boarded up. Maybe there's not many things you can do nowadays with an old movie theater
Even when some of the old buildings are vacant Las Vegas still tries to take care of them so they don't look like an eyesore or fall down.
