The open road is calling

I went into Quartzsite today and filled up the truck with fuel; diesel sure is getting expensive again; it's almost up to three dollars a gallon. Being an oil-rich nation sure was good while it lasted.

I've been boondocked in Quartzsite for about three weeks now, and I feel it's time to ease on down the road to a nu view. I've done all I can do here to keep my mind fresh; my mind goes stale really quick. And just like a stone, if I don't get rolling, I'm going to start collecting moss. And then I become lazy, lackadaisical, and lethargic, all at the same time, on the same day.

So at the first sign of these afflictions, I know the only thing that will save me from slowly morphing into a Snowbird is a nu view. It doesn't have to be a great view, and it doesn't have to be a beautiful view; it just has to be a view that I haven't seen for a while but will remind me of how happy I was to be there before. And It just so happens that I'm glad to be just about anywhere I was before because where I'm at is where I love the most. And the only place I love more is where I'm going to be. And anticipating being in a new boondocking area, gives me a warm fuzzy feeling all over.

And speaking of where I'm going to be, I don't know exactly, but I'm going to head in the direction of Lake Havasu, Arizona, and Laughlin, Nevada. There's outstanding boondocking in both places, and I suspect I will be boondocking in both.

I don't know when I'm leaving, but it might be early next week since I was hanging around here just waiting for the off-road race yesterday; now that that's out of the way, I am free to move about the country.

This is the way most folks watched the race from up on the bluff. They had a good view of the dry wash down below. Their RV was only about 20 feet behind them. A handy cooler full of cold ones is close at hand. And a beautiful warm day with single-digit humidity. If you're a desert racing fan, it was perfect.

The only accident I saw during the race was a little bitty kid, riding a little bitty bicycle crashed and burned coming down the hill. Fortunately he had plenty of big brothers there to help out and offer him some sound advice, which I could easily hear was.... Get up and stop crying like a baby! Thank goodness his brothers were old enough to offer the kind of advice that will benefit him throughout his entire life.

Quads race with the motorcycles instead of with the all-terrain vehicles "ATVs" which are much larger, heavier, and could do more damage running over a motorcycle,  or a quad.

If you're not familiar with riding dirt bikes you may notice the riders stand up a lot even though they have a perfectly good seat to sit on. Standing like this with your knees slightly bent helps your legs act like shock absorbers, much like the motorcycle's suspension, and keeps your body from violently bouncing around as much, and your kidneys from falling out.

There was a helicopter loitering around, for what purpose I do not know. But just guessing it could have been..... To help with communications, as there are some weird antennas on the tail. Maybe for medical emergencies, because most of the time the racers are miles out in the desert, far from spectators, or help. Or possibly something to do with the telemetry that keeps up with the racers location.
