The Elephant of Elephant Butte state Park. he's riding a jet ski.
It was a beautiful day at the Elephant so I took the opportunity to go to Walmart get a few groceries, and on the way back fill up the fuel tank on the truck so I'll be ready to pull out of here tomorrow morning.
I'm always happy when I'm thinking about heading someplace especially if it's someplace new, or someplace I haven't been for a while, and if my memory keeps going in the direction it's going, pretty soon everyplace I go will be a new place.
Like I've mentioned before I look at going to new places, or places I haven't been for a while as a challenge. It's a challenge to find some place to stay, to find the grocery store, to find a hardware store, and to find things to do in the area. I think of those challenges as peeking out of the rut that I'm in and seeing other interesting things and places. And if it wasn't for doing that every once in a while I would probably slide back into the deep rut of living in a home without wheels, and looking at the same thing every day, driving down the same road every day, shopping at the same store every day, and seeing the same faces every day. I know for most folks that's the perfect way to live, and they wouldn't change it for anything. But for me that's kind of like being in a prison, a larger more comfortable prison, but a prison nonetheless.
The other day I dug way back into the oldie moldy past of my previous blog posts and reread the posts from my previous trip to Padre island Texas, which was for most of the month of December in 2016. After reading all of my posts it made me wonder why the heck I'm I going back there, It seems like it was just one miserable day after another of cold rain and blowing sand. So why am I going back there?
Asking myself that question I came up with three logical reasons.
One- I'm stupid and a glutton for punishment.
two- I like the idea of a challenge, and Padre island was definitely a challenge.
Three- if the weather is more cooperative there's a lot of fun things to do there and I should give it another chance.
Going back over my blog posts a second time, and paying close attention to some of the nice days I had while I was there, both of them, the reason for my return became obvious. It's number one.
