Since Bisbee is a mining town they built the town where the gold was which happen to be in a Canyon so the town is built up on the sides of the Canyon and everything gets very narrow in the bottom of the Canyon.
I went to Tombstone and Bisbee this morning which is about a 100 mile round-trip over mostly two-lane blacktop with some mountain driving thrown in for good measure.
I didn't really do anything in Tombstone I just took a couple of pictures and left. Bisbee was where I really needed to go and I had to drive through Tombstone to get to Bisbee. Bisbee is the county seat of Cochise County where Tombstone is located and since I have property in Tombstone I needed to pay some property tax and change my address once again so Bisbee is where I needed to get things done.
I haven't been to Bisbee in several years so wanted to stop in the old historic downtown and take some pictures but I couldn't find a place to park it was so crowded. I'm not sure why it was so busy maybe they had some kind of event going on or something.
Anyway I got my tax stuff done with no problems and the county employees I dealt with were very kind and helpful. Fortunately their offices were several miles outside of town so I had no problem parking at the county offices. So now that they've got my correct address I can use the papers they send me every year to pay my taxes online so I won't have to go to Bisbee again.
I had to go through an immigration checkpoint leaving Tombstone and it's gotten bigger than I remember it in the past so I assume they're spending more time and effort checking everyone coming from the border. As usual it just took a few seconds to ask me if I was a US citizen, have a dog sniff at my truck and send me on my way.
A lot of copper was also found in Bisbee, and this is a part of the Phelps Dodge, Lavender pit mine which kept the town alive when the gold ran out
The birdcage theater in Tombstone Arizona is one of the most authentic buildings in Tombstone. I used to know the folks that owned the Birdcage Theater and Boot Hill Cemetery. But that was a completely different life and a long time ago.
Tombstone, the town to tough to die. A lot of larger-than-life Westerners walked down these dusty streets, and created history with each step.
