I like it here at Caballo Lake State Park, but my Internet is crawling slow and takes forever to get anything done, especially loading pictures on my blog. I don't recall it being this slow in the past, but a lot of Internet speed is dependent upon how many people are using it at any given moment. Since the campground is full, maybe there's not enough bandwidth for all the RVers running around nowadays.

So anyway, I'm going to leave here tomorrow and go to Elephant Butte State Park just up the road. And since my favorite boondocking area at Elephant Butte is up on Ridge Road, where there are only six or eight boondocking spots, and with the Easter holidays coming up the middle of this month, I figure I should nail down a boondocking spot and hunker down sooner than I normally would.

I've noticed in the recent past that it's getting harder and harder to find one of those spots empty; there's a lot of competition out here nowadays for boondocking spots wherever I go, and I'm finding it helps to be more flexible and less set in my ways, so I can enjoy myself no matter where I end up.

Now there's plenty of boondocking available at Elephant Butte, but a lot of it is beachfront camping which requires the possibility of me having to deal with soft sand, and the street tires that I had put on the truck when I became a fulltimer just aren't up to dealing with soft sand, which is why I try to stay up on Ridge Road if at all possible.

A peaceful, quiet, day of boondocking at Caballo Lake

The bronco boondocking on the other side of a dry riverbed. That smooth area in the middle of the picture should be full of water.... But it's not, and hasn't been for quite some time. The water levels in these reservoirs on the Rio Grande are pitifully low, with no improvement in sight.
