There's good news, and there's bad news.

Clicking the pics may cause beautiful flowers to burst forth in all their glory... Or it might just cause them to get a little bigger.

First Rose of the season.

Good news for me today, but I'll have to start at the beginning to explain why it's good news and not bad news.

As soon as I talked to the folks about buying their Lance 825 truck camper, and we reached an agreement on the price and a date to complete the deal, which was to be today at 11:30, I started getting my truck ready to carry the "new to me" camper in the truck bed. But almost immediately, I ran into problems.

The first problem was Lance campers use a proprietary plug that plugs into the truck for your stop-lights and turns signals, and it's a completely different kind of plug that most other RVs use, so the plug that's on my truck now wouldn't work. So I looked around on the Internet, and it was going to take a week or more to get a plug for my truck that would work on the Lance. So I might have to drive 40 miles through Denver with no brake lights, or turn signals.

My next problem was my tie-downs that chain the camper to the truck. Since the bronco only weighs about 1500 pounds, I installed fairly inexpensive tie-downs on the truck that would handle the relatively lightweight bronco. But the Lance is about 500 pounds heavier than that, and I wasn't sure if my tie-downs would take the load of the Lance... Having a truck camper go flying off the back of your pickup truck on the interstate will not endear you to the horrified people in your rear-view mirror.

A lesser problem, but a problem nonetheless, is some truck campers will touch the top of the truck's cab when it's set in the truck's bed, to keep that from happening the camper has to sit on something a couple of inches tall to lift it off the roof of the truck. Again, this is a simple problem to fix with a few boards for the camper to sit on, but not a good thing to find out the first time you try to put the camper on the truck when you're far from home.

So me having to pick up the Lance at its current location and drive it home with all the concerns I had about my truck's ability to safely tote the load was bringing a lot of stress into my life that I didn't want or need.

There are probably several ways to solve the problem, but fortunately for me, the camper owner solved it in the best possible way; he agreed to deliver the Lance 825 to my daughter's house for a few shekels... You cannot imagine the joy and relief I felt knowing I didn't have to drive through downtown Denver with no brake lights or turn signals, carrying 2000 pounds that may or may not be there when I get home.
                
So the bad news is, I didn't get to pick up the camper today, but the good news is the camper's owner says he understands my safety concerns and will try to get it to me early next week. He's in business; I think he's a contractor and says he's booked until then.

So it was a happy day for me. I didn't get the camper yet, but it looks like I will soon, and I don't have to risk getting a substantial ticket from an angry police officer who finds himself in the unfortunate position of having a Lance camper sitting on top of his squad car.
