Only clicking one pic is easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

The sun just coming up over the mountains here at Datil Wells. You can't tell from this photo, but it was cold enough that I only stuck my nose outside for a few minutes.

Yet another frosty morning with the outside temperature registering 17° when I got up. For some reason, I've changed from sleeping till eight or 8:30 in the morning on cold days to waking up at 6:30 no matter how cold it is. I wouldn't say I like that because if I wake up late, I don't have to run my heater and burn propane as long as I do if I wake up early. If I get out of bed at 8:30, the sun has had a chance to warm things up a bit, and I only have to run a propane heater for an hour or so before I start getting decent heat from the sun. Nothing I just said applies to camping here at Datil because I'm running my electric heater all night.

Since I'm not spending as much time outside because of the weather, I find I'm eating more than I normally would, and what I'm eating is snacks which are usually fattening, so I don't feel like I'm taking off my summer weight as quickly as I normally would. I have a scale in the Arctic Fox, but I didn't bring it with me because, packing the Lance, I had to make a lot of decisions on what I needed and what I didn't, and the scale became one of the things I felt I didn't need... I think a lot of folks get rid of their scales as they get older.

So far, I've done pretty well on packing the things I needed, but I am missing my telescoping ladder. I need to get up on the roof and secure some solar panel wires flopping around and making noise. I don't have a lot of faith in the factory ladder that's screwed to the back of the Lance. I would much prefer a ladder I could move anywhere around the camper, but my telescoping ladder is on the heavy side, at 20-something pounds, its hard to store; and I don't need it very often..... there was a lot of things that just had to be left behind.

And another of the things I left behind was the calendar I have hanging on the wall of the Arctic Fox. So I recently bought a random calendar without giving it much thought and have just discovered that it doesn't have holidays marked on it, all it tells me is the days of the week totally leaving out something as important as... Next Thursday is Thanksgiving!! Finding that out almost gave me the vapors since I have no holiday plans, and have no idea where I'm going to be, or stay... but I think I'd better come up with an idea or something pretty quick.

Brrr. 17. Brrr. But the photo justifies the experience for others, maybe not for you. ha. The ladder you had to leave behind does sound like it would have come in handy....the scales, and especially the calendar.....not so much. Im sure the internet will keep you informed as well as the calendar. Your weight....well, just guess. Ha.

I guess I could've used an Internet calendar, but for some reason I like a physical calendar, not sure why, probably because I've always done it that way.

I don't use the scales all that often, I usually just go by how my jeans fit. I've been wearing a 36 waist as long as I can remember, and when I get to the point I can barely button them I figure I'm too heavy and cut back on my eating.

Since this is my first winter of living in the Lance I'll probably find things that I put in it that I didn't need, and I imagine I will find things that need to be moved out of the Arctic Fox and into the Lance when I get back to Denver, so I'm looking at this winter as a learning experience. I learned last winter from traveling in the little bronco that I can live in a space this small, and now I'm learning what I need in a space this small to live comfortably.

If I was going again there are a lot of things I could leave behind now I thought I needed then. Which is good because if I was gong now I would buy shorter van that would fit into a standard parking spot.

There's a lot of things I don't mind leaving behind, but like I mentioned before tools are my biggest problem because I never know what I might need to fix, and I guess my ladder fits into that tools category.

Fitting into a normal parking space is kind of important depending on your RV lifestyle. My Lance hangs over the back of my truck bed a couple of feet, but since I have a short bed pickup I still fit in normal parking spaces.

But I have found its very rare that I'm required to fit a normal parking space, and that includes driving around Denver during the summer with my camper on. Most of the places I go have large parking lots, Walmart and Home Depot come to mind. But even places that don't will still have someplace off to the side where I can park without being in anyone's way. But I generally stay out of downtown areas, finding no need to put up with that many people, and that many cars.

That's one thing I like about my truck, camper combination, so far I'm living comfortably in it, and yet I drive it around, go places, and park wherever I need to as if it's just transportation, and not transportation and a home... I looove my newfound mobility.
