Very generalized prediction for the future of boondocking

It's fairly easy to come up with ideas about the future of campgrounds. Because whether their commercial or government, big money is involved so its not that hard to figure out what business people and government might do to bring in more money.

Now my predictions could be right or wrong, but businesses, and the government, tend to feel the same way about money.... They want more of it. So it's not that difficult to predict what some cash-strapped, hanging on by their toenails, campground owner might do when their phone is ringing off the hook with RVers making reservations for months in advance.... They would have to be fools not to raise their prices.

But guessing what will happen with boondocking is more difficult because money is not in the middle of it, it's there, but lots of other factors are involved.

But in general, due to all of the boondocking capable RVs I see running around, vans being at the forefront. I would have to say that boondocking is going to be more popular than ever. And due to these smaller sized modern RVs being able to utilize technology to boondock in comfort for longer periods of time, I would say even long-term boondocking might become more popular.

I'm hoping Old Desert Rats like myself, and many others that call Quartzsite and other BLM boondocking areas home,  won't get crowded out by the young working from home folks, but right now it's too early to tell.

But what I CAN tell is there was a lot of people boondocking this year, but by the very nature of boondocking, the way we tend to spread out, it's hard to tell if it was a lot more or a little more.

But overall I think the pressure of all these new RVs coming online is going to start filling up even marginal commercial campgrounds, and more and more RVers, for one reason or another, will gravitate towards State and other government administered campgrounds. And since a lot of those campgrounds have suffered from decades of lackadaisical funding, and often poor management, it won't take much to overburden those facilities. So about the only place left to go will be to boondock on the public lands administered by various local, state, and federal agencies.

And since I feel the ability for RVers to long-term boondock comfortably, will encourage more RVers that have been priced out of the commercial RV parks, and crowded out of the state and local parks, to choose boondocking as a viable option for camping.


And because there's not as much government land available for boondocking back East, and in the South. I believe more RVers will gravitate to the West where there are plenty of public lands. Which may cause a whole new set of problems, which is what often happens when too many people take advantage of a good thing.

This big hunk of slate sitting near one of the camping areas, is about 4 feet long and 3 feet wide, and folks seem to enjoy taking it apart. I suppose most folks have never seen a piece of rock that you can disassemble with your hands.

But I wonder how many of those folks realize that next to the schoolteacher, slate was the most important item in the classroom.

Younger folks may not know, but back in my day school blackboards were made out of slate, fact is people have been writing on slate for hundreds of years.

So for all my elementary school days, and part of my junior high school days, every time I was called on by the teacher to erase the blackboard, that blackboard was made out of slate.
