Waiting for a train

There's a couple of roads that run through the boondocking area and this is one of them. once you get on one of these roads everyplace you see is boondocking. So anyplace that's vacant that you can fit into is yours.

It looks like in the next four days, it will be 80°. That sounds pretty warm to me, but it seems like it will be a more normal mid-60s later next week.

Those of you who have been reading my blog for a while know that here at this BLM dispersed camping area, there is a wooded section that has been turned into an unofficial paintball area, and yesterday, a dozen or so people were in the woods shooting at each other with paintball guns. They don't bother anyone; it's mostly young guys having fun.

I can tell from their haircuts and base stickers on some of the windshields of their trucks that a few of these guys are from the local Marine base here in Yuma. But since the Marine base in Yuma is composed of aircraft squadrons, I doubt if any of these guys would be ground-pounders; they're probably guys that keep the Marine aircraft flying.

I went to Walmart this morning and bought some groceries, and again, I set a new personal record for the amount of money I'm spending on groceries. Some of that could be attributed to me stocking up a little bit, before heading to Quartzsite sometime next week where the nearest Walmart is about 35 miles away from "Q," But the Walmart where I'm it now is less than 5 miles away, and about half of that 5 miles is on I-8 so it's a quick trip.

I also bought some diesel fuel at $4.29 a gallon. This reminds me that the gas station at Dateland the other day that had diesel fuel for six dollars a gallon; needless to say, I passed on that ripoff.

Going to Walmart, I had to wait for a freight train to go by, which I assume was coming out of San Diego. And they're the same trains that go right by the BLM land I'm boondocking on so I see them daily. There's a bunch of them, and they're huge. They usually have three engines on the front, one or two in the middle, and two or three pushing. I waited a long time for that train to pass by. If I lived here and dealt with these trains every day, it could become very annoying trying to get to work or an appointment on time.

I'm a big fan of solar panels feeling the more the merrier. But I do have to wonder what these folks do with those solar panels when their traveling. I notice they have a scooter to run to the store on but it's pretty hard to get out of Walmart without more groceries that will fit on a scooter. And I'm quite sure packing all those solar panels up and storing them somewhere, where I can't imagine, is not exactly fun.

But by the looks of it they'll be here a lot longer than I will so I'll never know where all of those solar panels are stored.

Just like these folks, today I had to put out some markers showing where my boondocking spot is so nobody would take it while I was at the store.

But due to my training of how to survive living in Miami Florida, I learned that you don't leave anything laying around that you don't want to lose. I don't think these folks ever lived in Miami.

That line of trees in the background is about a 100 yards wide strip of woods where the paintball guys play. If you walk all the way through the woods to the other side there's an irrigation canal That's big enough you can't get across without swimming. Some of the trees in there are huge and obviously really old.
