what happened !!??

I really enjoy coming to these southern parts of Arizona. Especially areas like Quartzsite and Lake Havasu where most folks in the places I go are boondocker's.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the Lone Ranger living the way I do, but when I'm in places like this, and especially in Quartzsite, I see how many people full-time as long-term boondocker's and I don't feel as odd as I often do.... I feel like I fit in among my own kind.

I moseyed up the road with the intention of staying at the boondocking area I normally stay at across the highway from Sara Park, and a mile or so before I got there, I started seeing signs along the highway saying things like "event ahead," "no parking alongside the highway," and temporary 35 mile an hour speed limit signs. This didn't look like a good thing to me, but other than those signs, I didn't see anything else going on..... Until I got to the area where I normally boondock.

Driving slowly along the highway, the place where I would normally boondock was packed with RVs; they were as close together as an RV Park, and I saw no space to get my truck into, much less stay a respectful distance from a neighbor.

Not seeing a spot available, I quickly reverted to plan "B" and kept driving until I came to another area where I boondock, just past the local Walmart. Everything looked perfectly normal, so I pulled into there and called it home.

I'm still not 100% sure what was happening in the Sara Park area. I looked up Lake Havasu events on the Internet, and the only event I could find that was large enough to affect traffic on the highway was "The Rockabilly Reunion," which is going on this weekend. Thousands of people attend this event, including many RVers because they have boondocking at the site of this Rockabilly event. But the boondocking and tickets to the event cost over $300, and since the place I normally boondock across from Sara Park is the last boondocking area before you get to town, maybe these folks filled up where I normally stay, so they didn't have to pay that boondocking fee at the event.

I don't know if this explains why my boondocking area was packed full of RVs, but it's the only thing I can come up with. I would love to go to something like this to see the cars and the motorcycles, but dealing with that many people would not be fun.

Whatever it was It doesn't matter to me; I found a home on the other side of town thanks to plan "B."

Boondocking at Lake Havasu

I would say, based on years of observation, that these off-road vehicles, known as ATVs, are one of the main reasons that folks come to places like Lake Havasu.

Buying one or two of these things, and yes some folks have two, and having the means to carry them around, and an RV to stay in while you're using them, is a fairly substantial investment.

But these folks do seem to enjoy themselves because they understand that any time you're running around in the desert, there's safety in numbers.
