What it takes to go somewhere

My first sunset back in Ajo Arizona. Not much to look at, but it was my first.

I have a couple of bags of trash I need to throw away, so I will probably go into town in the next day or so. Unfortunately, I'm trying to wait until my current propane tank runs out before I go into town to take the empty with me and get it filled up. It should run out within the next three days, or maybe earlier because I've been doing more heating due to the cold weather I had last week.

Since I'm so mobile now and going to a new place is so simple and stress-free, I've had to change the way I think about traveling. Lugging the Arctic Fox around was always a concern in the past, and whether or not I wanted to deal with the hassle, stress, and worry about parking the thing made it a big part of my decisions on when and where to move.

Now moving to a new location is no more difficult than driving to the store; the only difference is I drive for a couple of hours instead of 10 minutes.

Here is what I have to do to drive three or four miles into Ajo to get some groceries.... Take everything off my bed, throw it on the sofa, take everything off the counters that will fall on the floor, and put them in a cabinet. Put down the top and latch all four corners. Fold up the entry stairs and put them away. Fold up my stepladder and put it in the camper. Close and lock the camper door, crank up the truck and drive off any leveling blocks the truck might be sitting on. Put away the leveling blocks, and drive to the store.

Now here's what I have to do if I drive a couple of hundred miles to a new location.... EXACTLY THE SAME THING. So whether or not I move to a new location is based solely on wanting to or not.

And by knowing the steps I go through to drive the camper somewhere, you can also see how much simpler life would be with a regular hard-sided truck camper. A while back, I timed how long it would take me to go somewhere if I was in a normal truck camper and not a pop-top truck camper, that required me to remove my bedding, and lock down the top. And it was under five minutes. How simple and wonderful my life would be if I could pack up and drive to the store in five minutes.

When I leave someplace I've normally got pictures left over that I didn't use, and such is the case now. So this is a random cowboy left over from the rodeo at the Pima County Fairgrounds. And since I can relate to these pictures about what was going on at the time, these left over pictures bring back great memories of where I was, which makes me happy.

I call these next two images of the old rodeo grounds in Ajo Arizona  "The Beauty of Boondocking."  If your like a normal RVer, and like, camaraderie, socializing, and sitting around the campfire, boondocking is perfect for you. Because if you boondock fairly close to town like I normally do there will usually be other RVers in the area and they like nothing better than getting together, sitting around a campfire, and telling lies and war stories.

On the other hand, if you like a little peace and quiet like me while in the old rodeo grounds, and that's me in the middle of the picture, and had rather listen to the coyotes singing at night instead of your neighbors  television, then boondocking is the the perfect choice. That's right, and that's the beauty of boondocking, the freedom to live the way you want.
