where to next?

It was in the teens when I got up this morning, needless to say this is not what I had in mind when I got to Arizona. A dusting of snow is no big deal but temperatures that cold is.

It was another sunny but cold day today, so I didn't get out and do much. It snowed a little, as has been predicted for the last week, but not enough for me to get out my snowboard and banzai down the main street of Tombstone.

The temperature was not only pretty chilly today, but the wind was blowing, which killed any remaining opportunity I had to get outside and enjoy myself.

The first place I'm going to try to go to tomorrow is the Colossal Cave Park just outside of Tucson, but it's kind of up in the mountains, and I'm afraid it's going to be pretty cold up there and colder is not exactly what I'm looking for. But it's the closest boondocking I can find to the Pima County Fairgrounds so I at least have to give it a shot.

I'm hoping Colossal Cave Park will work out for me, but even if it doesn't, I'm so tired of dealing with the chilly weather that Ajo is looking better and better because it's warmer. Yes, I may have to deal with illegal alien problems, but I can at least drive down to Ajo and see what's going on, and if it looks scary, it's only 30 miles back to I-8.

Bear in mind that if I were staying in town at a regular RV Park in Ajo, the illegal alien situation wouldn't bother me in the least. But I'm boondocking 3 or 4 miles from town at a out of business rodeo grounds, where there might be five or six other RVs boondocking in the same area as there was last year when I stayed for a few days. But a few years ago, before the border was opened, there would be 20 or 30 RVs at the old rodeo grounds, but I assume most of those folks have been scared away. I would feel safer if there were still 20 or 30 other RVs there.

But I'm leaving tomorrow, so I'll be someplace else next time you hear from me. But I don't know where that will be until I get there.

When you're one of six females living in a tough Western town, out in the middle of nowhere, full of miners, cattle rustlers, gamblers, and gunslingers, your choices of how to make a living are very limited... So what's a girl to do? As you can see here, most of them became gunslingers.

I just looked up the colossal cave site and they charge $15 per vehicle to camp so my rig would be $30 a night for a dirt no services site. Hmmmmm.

I've never been to the Colossal Cave Park of course, but the infrastructure there was built by the CCC workers of which my dad was one during the great depression, but he was working in Georgia building similar things to the Colossal Cave Park.

I doubt they are charging $15 a night for a vehicle and $15 for a trailer. Although that would be a good way of making some extra money for an RV Park, if that worked, I'm sure KOA would be doing it already... And they could charge an additional $15 for the toad..

The ones that get me are the ones that don't charge extra for a car being towed by a motorhome but do charge extra if you unhitch before arriving.

I guess it's wise to read the fine print on the rules at some campgrounds. I've never had an RV that needed a toad. To me it would be like having another trailer that I couldn't back up.

Has the cold weather been a problem with your LiPO batteries. I suppose you keep the camper warm enough that they don't get to 32 degrees. I have been researching LIPO placement in my truck and trailer and due to those storage areas being in non heated area's they couldn't be charged when too cold unless i buy the more expensive self heating ones. At my age learning all this new stuff keeps my mind active........If I could only remember it all.

So far I haven't had any trouble with the batteries in the cold weather. It's been getting down into the teens at night on occasions but mostly in the 20s outside the camper. Since I don't use any heat at night in the camper its usually low 30s to mid 20s when I wake up in the morning, and the batteries seem to be working normally.

To tell you the truth I had forgotten all about the lithium iron batteries being cold sensitive until you just mentioned it. I guess because I'm normally not in places where it gets cold enough to affect the batteries. But so far this winter has been pretty chilly for being in Arizona and the batteries have worked fine even though it is been below freezing numerous times inside the camper.

I looked at ultimatecampground.com website, it is pretty interesting, and I had not seen it before. You have a wealth of information Larry and I appreciate you sharing it with all of us.
