Yay me !!

There was an old woman who lived in a shoe, she wanted to click a pic but she didn't know what to do... It appears that living in a shoe instead of a house wasn't a smart move.

I had to move the truck over to the main part of the driveway where there was more room to work on the front end. I've removed the front wheel well liner, and I'm just about ready to take my first coffee break.

Yes, indeed; I finally got out this morning, worked on the truck, and it was the simplest thing possible that could cause the problem of throwing a "water in fuel" code. It turns out it was a defective sensor, and all I had to do was unplug it, and the code disappeared.

Ordinarily, I wouldn't disconnect a "water in fuel sensor" because not having water in your diesel fuel is extremely important, but in this case, the over 200,000 miles on this truck's engine have never given me water in fuel warning. But occasionally, I will drain the water collector on the fuel filter, and I've never seen so much as a drop of water in the collector. And when the warning came on, I drained the water collector, and again there was no sign of water.

So after doing a lot of reading on the Internet, I found out that a defective water sensor is fairly common, and you can either replace it or disconnect it, and I chose the latter. I would replace it, they're not that expensive, but in all these years of never seen any water come out of the water-fuel separator, I'm not going to worry about it. I'll just drain the fuel filter now and then, like I've been doing.

I called the nearest diesel emissions test place, and I can't get an appointment until the 17th of July, so it looks like it'll be a while before I see if my truck will pass its various emissions tests. But I'm pretty sure I'll be okay now, so maybe I can start doing things I enjoy instead of things I have to do.

Diesel engine mechanics sounds simple because they don't have any spark plugs, carburetors, or distributor caps, but don't let that fool you. Nobody understands how these things work let alone me, which is why I seldom mess with any of the doodads and whatchamacallits that covers this entire engine

I was warned by an experienced diesel mechanic that diesel engines run on magic smoke, and as long as the magic smoke is coming out of the tailpipe you're good to go. But if the magic smoke stops you and the truck will never reach your destination.... Never Ever.
